We finished our first game jam project: Hungry Dungeoneer! An action RPG inspired by games like Crystalis and Terranigma. With visuals like Zelda on GBC. And a roguelite gameplay loop.
The Story: Shortly after we wrapped up development on STAR DIVER, Youtuber ToastyTime announced a weeklong game jam that he would be hosting. With STAR DIVER in the books, we jumped at the chance to start work on something new.
I want you to know: if you've ever wanted to create a game, you absolutely can. And you don't need much more than a week. We managed to create Hungry Dungeoneer: an action RPG with robust combat, weapon upgrades, a town with NPCs, a dungeon with 10 floors and 8 enemy types, a final boss, and a few cutscenes to tie it all together.
I owe a great deal of gratitude to the engine itself and the amazing plugin developers that allowed for fast-paced creativity.
If you want to make games, start somewhere. ANYWHERE. Carve out some time to follow some tutorials. And LIMIT your scope. I didn't finish any games until I learned how to love small projects. Short 1-2 hour games became dream games during the course of their development. Give yourself a chance!
STAR DIVER, a "cozy" shmup created in RPG Maker, was released on June 13, 2026 to critical acclaim.

I'm VERY happy with how the game came out. We began development on September 2025 after realizing that progress on our other game, Bee Garden, had begun to stall and we needed a break to finish a game in a month. The game ended up taking three months to develop, with a long hiatus between months 2 and 3. Our initial goal began with a premise: life on a boat in a flooded world. But the gameplay loop took a lot of brainstorming and experimentation. A shoot-em-up / bullet-hell was NOT what I had in mind. But after experimenting with Action Combat plugin for RPG Maker MZ, the floodgates of bullets opened. Experimentation resulted in a sidescrolling shooter. Combat ended up being so fun, that "life on a boat" took a backseat during development. The final month was spent fleshing out the "life-sim" elements (fishing, cooking, NPC interactions). What we ended up with was a "cozy shmup" (forgive my hubris for making up a genre. I know I'm not Kojima).
The surprise star of the game might be the restaurant mini-game. I made it because of my duty-bound obsession with mini-games but it ended up being way more fun than it had any right to be. And if I had any passion for cooking games (I don't), I think it could work as a full title on it's own right. But I'll have to pass for now.
One last thing. I love a good Nintendo-horror. I mean, Zero-Two in Kirby or the Well in OoT. A dark twist that recontextualizes a charming world. So don't let STAR DIVER's cutesy exterior fool you.
Something strange waits for you at the bottom of the sea.
